Case study
Lawn Replacement & Turfing Project
Our client contacted us in the summer after accidentally using the wrong weedkiller on their lawn. Unfortunately, this left more than 50% of the grass completely dead and patchy. We advised that, rather than trying a range of treatments, a full re-turf would achieve the best long-term results.
The client requested that the work be delayed until late September, expecting wetter weather to help the turf establish; although, as it turned out, we ended up with an unexpected Indian summer!
Our Approach
We began by carefully stripping away the damaged lawns using a turf cutter. From there, we carried out a thorough soil preparation process, which included:
-
Mixing in compost to improve soil quality.
-
Levelling and re-firming the soil to create a stable, even base.
-
Cutting straighter lawn edges, as requested by the client, to replace the original curved layout.
-
Removing all debris and stones to give the turf the best chance of rooting.
Once the ground was prepared, we laid fresh, high-quality turf with staggered joints for strength and a natural finish. The turf was then rolled and watered to promote good root contact.
The Result
The transformation was immediate. The new lawns have completely refreshed both the back and front gardens, with crisp, straight edges and a vibrant green finish that complements the surrounding planting. The striped appearance adds a professional touch, and the overall look is clean, fresh, and far easier to maintain.
Aftercare Advice
We supplied the client with a full turf care sheet and watering guidance to help them keep the lawn healthy during the crucial establishment phase. Luke will also revisit in a couple of weeks to check progress and advise on the right timing for the first cut.
For longer-term care, we recommended:
-
Spring: Feeding with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser, light scarifying, and overseeding if required.
-
Autumn: Aeration, moss control, and an autumn feed to strengthen the lawn before next winter.
