My lawn is looking pretty tired and beyond rescue. What’s your advice?
We’ve successfully revived many lawns that seemed beyond saving! Even if you think your lawn is beyond repair, we have a range of tried-and-tested techniques to bring it back to life. What about bad weather?
Not much stops us! While we always strive to keep to our schedule, we’re used to working through the unpredictable British weather. However, in cases of extreme conditions like heavy rain or strong winds, we may need to adjust our plans for safety and to ensure the best results. We’ll keep you informed if any changes are needed and work with you to rearrange a convenient time. But generally, we’re prepared to keep your garden looking great, rain or shine!
Can you help with advice on choosing plants for my garden?

Whether it’s garden cuttings, soil, or other debris, we’ll remove it from your property and leave your garden looking tidy and refreshed. If you’d prefer to keep any materials for composting or other uses, just let us know, and we’ll be happy to accommodate.
What's the best way to prevent weeds in my garden?
Preventing weeds is all about creating a healthy garden environment and staying proactive. Here are a few effective methods:
- Mulching: Apply a thick layer of mulch around your plants and flower beds to block sunlight and prevent weeds from germinating.
- Regular Maintenance: Regularly check for weeds and remove them before they have a chance to spread. It’s easier to pull weeds when they’re young and less established.
- Weed Barriers: Consider using weed barriers or landscape fabric under your mulch or paving to prevent weed growth.
- Healthy Soil: Ensure your soil is healthy and well-drained, as strong, healthy plants can often outcompete weeds for nutrients and space.
- Herbicides: In more persistent cases, we can advise on the use of herbicides to effectively control weeds without harming the surrounding plants.
With a combination of these strategies, you can keep your garden looking tidy and free from weeds.

Who will carry out the landscaping work on my project?
All work is completed by our dedicated in-house landscaping team. At Waterlillie Clark, we pride ourselves on having skilled and experienced professionals who are passionate about creating beautiful and functional outdoor spaces. Unlike companies that rely on subcontractors, our in-house team ensures consistent quality, attention to detail, and excellent communication throughout your project. From start to finish, you’ll have the peace of mind that your garden is in expert hands.
Are raised beds better than traditional garden beds?
Raised beds offer several advantages, including improved drainage, better soil control, and reduced strain on your back during gardening. They are particularly useful for areas with poor soil or limited space. However, traditional beds might be more cost-effective and suitable for larger gardens where space isn't an issue.
How do I choose the right fence for my garden?
When choosing a fence, consider its purpose—privacy, security, aesthetics, or defining boundaries. Wooden panels or slatted fences are great for privacy, while metal or wire fences are better for durability and security. Match the fence style to your garden’s design for a cohesive look, and ensure the materials are weather-treated for longevity.

How long does it take to install a patio?
The time required to install a patio depends on its size, complexity, and the type of material used. A small, straightforward patio can take 2–3 days, while larger or more intricate designs may take up to a week or more. Factors such as weather conditions, site preparation, and the need for drainage solutions can also affect the timeline.
What type of wood is best for decking?
The best wood for decking depends on your budget and maintenance preferences. Softwoods like pressure-treated pine are cost-effective and durable with proper care. Hardwoods like cedar, redwood, or tropical hardwoods (e.g., teak, ipe) are more expensive but offer superior durability and resistance to decay. Composite decking is a low-maintenance alternative that mimics wood while resisting rot and fading - but often comes with a higher price tag.
When is the best time to lay a new lawn?
The ideal time to lay a new lawn is during spring (March to May) or autumn (September to October). These seasons provide mild temperatures and consistent moisture levels, which are perfect for grass establishment. The soil is warm enough for root growth, and there’s usually enough rain to keep the turf or seed hydrated without excessive watering. Avoid laying a lawn during extreme heat in summer or frost in winter, as these conditions can hinder growth and damage the grass. Luckilly - here in Plymouth we experience good conditions most of the year round for turfing.
